Fernwood started with trees, and trees are still the heart of the work. Today the same crew also builds landscapes, plants gardens and keeps yards in shape across the Upstate.
We’d rather save a tree than cut it down. When one has to go, we’d like you to not be able to tell we were there — except that it’s gone.
How we work
Every removal starts on the ground: where each piece goes, what’s under it, and how it gets there safely.
Cleanup is on the estimate, not an afterthought. We walk the property with you before we pull out.
Sometimes that’s pruning instead of removal. Sometimes it’s leaving a tree alone.

Safety
Tree work is some of the most dangerous work there is, and the gear is there for reasons. Helmets, eye and ear protection and chainsaw chaps on every job. Ropes and rigging checked before they’re used. A plan for every tree talked through on the ground before anyone climbs.
It’s slower than cutting corners. That’s the point.
The name
Walk into any stand of Upstate hardwoods and you’ll find Christmas ferns growing in the shade under the trees. That’s the whole idea — and it’s the frond in our mark: big trees and the gardens beneath them, looked after together.
